Billing & Office Policies
Important details regarding insurance, copayments, account balances, and patient forms.
Billing & Payment Policy
Thank you for choosing Sunshine Pediatrics of Florida as your child's Patient-Centered Medical Home. We are committed to providing the highest quality healthcare. Please read our billing policies carefully to understand your financial responsibilities.
1. Insurance Cards & Coverage
We participate with many private insurance companies and Medicaid plans. To ensure accurate billing:
- You must present a valid, current insurance card at **each and every visit**.
- If there is a lapse in your insurance coverage, or if we cannot verify coverage, full payment is required at the time of service.
- It is the parent/guarantor's responsibility to notify our office immediately of any change in insurance details or billing address.
2. Copayments & Deductibles
In accordance with your insurance policy contract, **all copayments, co-insurance, and deductibles are due at the time of check-in**.
Payment Responsibility
The individual who brings the child to the appointment (whether a parent, grandparent, or guardian) is responsible for making the copayment or deductible payment.
3. Divorce & Shared Custody Policies
Sunshine Pediatrics of Florida does not participate in billing disputes arising from divorce, separation, or custody agreements.
Custody Agreement Policy
Custody arrangements are private legal matters between parents. Our office policy dictates that **the parent or guardian who accompanies the child to the clinic is responsible for payment at the time of service**, regardless of what a divorce decree or custody agreement states.
4. Outstanding Balances
Any outstanding account balances must be settled, or a structured payment plan enrolled, prior to scheduling new non-emergency appointments. In the event of an emergency, medical care will be provided, but financial balances must be resolved immediately afterward.
5. Sick Care during a Well Exam
Annual Well Exams are focused on preventive health and developmental tracking. If, during a scheduled Well Exam, a child has an active illness, chronic issue, or non-preventive concern that requires medical evaluation and treatment:
- The pediatrician will address the issue, but an additional E&M (Evaluation & Management) code will be billed.
- Your insurance may process this as a separate sick visit, meaning you may be responsible for an additional copay, deductible, or co-insurance as dictated by your plan.
6. Vaccine visits
For "Shot Only" visits (where a patient comes in solely to receive scheduled immunizations from a nurse), any applicable copays or account balances are due at the time of the visit.

We accept major credit cards, cash, and personal checks.
